Practical questions
Questions about the house, answered plainly
The things people ask before they enquire. If something is missing, the enquiry form reaches us directly and we answer by email, usually the same day.
How many people does the house sleep?
Eight, in four bedrooms. Every bedroom has its own en-suite bathroom, so nobody shares and nobody draws the short straw.
Is the pool heated, and when is it open?
Yes. The pool is 7 by 5 metres, heated, and has an electric safety cover. It is open from roughly mid-April to mid-October, which means it is swimmable well outside high summer.
Is there air-conditioning?
Yes, throughout — every bedroom and the whole open-plan living area. In a stone farmhouse in August that is the difference between a holiday and an endurance test.
How far is the village?
About a kilometre — under ten minutes on foot. That covers the bakery, the restaurants, the Tuesday market and the château, and means dinner in Gordes without anybody having to drive home.
Do we need a car?
Yes, for the region. You can walk to Gordes, but the markets are in different towns on different mornings and the ochre cliffs and the Sorgue are twenty minutes away. There is parking at the house.
Are dogs welcome?
On request, and usually yes. The garden is fully enclosed and planted with lavender, roses, olives and pines. Tell us when you enquire so we can confirm.
Which days can we arrive and leave?
Saturday to Saturday, one week minimum. A changeover Saturday can be the end of one stay and the start of another, which is why the calendar shades whole weeks.
Are any bedrooms on the ground floor?
Two of the four, both en-suite. There are still a few steps to manage getting into the house, so it is not step-free.
Is it suitable for small children?
Yes. Cots and high chairs are available on request, the garden is enclosed, and the pool has an electric safety cover. There are board games, croquet, pétanque and pickleball.
Can we work from the house?
There is fast Wi-Fi and a desk in three of the four bedrooms, plus a laundry room — the house works well for a longer stay rather than only a week in August.
What does a week cost?
Rates are on request while we finalise the tariff for the coming season. Ask and we will send the current rate for your dates, including what it covers — linen, the final clean and pool heating.
Can we book direct?
Yes, and we would rather you did. The house is also listed with Oliver’s Travels and through several agencies if you prefer to book that way, but the enquiry form here reaches us and we reply by email, usually the same day.
Where is the nearest shop?
A Spar in Gordes, about nine hundred metres away. The nearest full supermarket is at Coustellet, ten minutes by car, which also holds a night market on Wednesdays through the summer.
When are the Avignon and Arles festivals?
The Festival d’Avignon runs 4–25 July 2026 — its eightieth edition — with the open-access Off on the same dates. Les Rencontres de la photographie d’Arles runs 6 July to 4 October 2026. Both are within an hour; a week in July gives you both.
Which airport should we use?
Marseille Provence, about an hour and ten minutes by road, with the widest choice of flights and car hire in the terminal. Avignon TGV is about fifty minutes if you would rather come by train.
Can you arrange a chef, or a massage, or a full fridge?
Yes. Juliette, our house manager, lives locally and arranges private chefs, massages at the house, a stocked fridge on arrival, extra housekeeping, guides and wine tastings. Ask before you travel rather than after.
